What does Sub 30 Minute 5K feel like?

Sub 30 minutes is a milestone that many new runners target — and it's very achievable with a few months of consistent training. At 6:00/km the pace is sustainable but still requires effort and smart pacing.

Even Split Checkpoints

These are the race clock times you should see at each marker for a perfect even split. Negative split runners should be 30–60s behind these in the first half.

Common mistakes

  • Starting at 5:30/km because it feels easy — km 4 will feel very different
  • Stopping to walk when breathing gets hard — slow down instead, don't stop
  • Not running at least one 5K at goal pace before race day

Key race day tips

  • 6:00/km feels slow at the start — trust it
  • Parkrun is a perfect low-pressure place to practise this goal
  • Focus on breathing rhythm — it calms the body and keeps pace honest
