What does Sub 25 Minute 5K feel like?

Sub 25 minutes (5:00/km) is a great benchmark for runners who've been training consistently for a few months. It requires sustained effort but is absolutely achievable — the key is not burning out in the first kilometre.

Even Split Checkpoints

These are the race clock times you should see at each marker for a perfect even split. Negative split runners should be 30–60s behind these in the first half.

Common mistakes

  • Starting with the fast group — their pace is 4:30/km and it will destroy you by km 2
  • Not running 5K at race pace in training — race day shouldn't be the first time
  • Giving up at km 3.5 when it gets hard — it's supposed to be hard

Key race day tips

  • Start slower than you think you should — 5:05/km for km 1
  • Find someone just ahead of you in km 3 and chase them
  • Your last km should be your fastest — if it is, you paced it perfectly
